How Aviator Provides Superior Support for Mobile Users 2 Different Ways
Patty is a senior sales executive and spends a lot of time on the road visiting clients, attending trade shows and presenting to prospective customers. She must have the most recent sales presentations and product information with her every time she leaves the office. Luckily, her company uses Aviator, so Patty uses Aviator Personal to support her mobile user needs.
Before Patty disconnects from the office network, she goes into the Sales cabinet in her companys Aviator library, and selects the documents she wants to take with her on the road.
She clicks on the Actions button above the cabinet view, and chooses to download the selected documents to her Aviator Personal database. Patty takes read-only versions of documents shell need for informational purposes, but also has the option to check out any documents she might need to edit while shes on the road (if she is an approved editor of the document).
Patty downloads read-only versions of her selected documents. When disconnected from the network, she can access her Aviator Personal database on her local workspace, and has all of the information she needs at her fingertips.
When Patty reconnects to the network, shell be able to upload any documents she created or edited in Aviator Personal, and easily synchronize documents in Aviator Personal with updated versions in the Aviator library for her next trip.
Down the hall from Patty, William, the company CFO, travels quite a bit to the companys various locations to oversee and audit the branch accounting staffs. He needs to be able to continue to work on important documents while hes on the road. However, William prefers to work with files in his local directory system rather than in a local Notes database. So hes glad that Aviator provides support that fits his mobile user needs as well.
When William prepares to leave for a trip, he goes into his cabinet where he selects the documents to take with him. In order to download the files to his local system, he must use the yellow triangles (buttons) above the cabinet view - one pointing downward, and one pointing upward. These are the download/upload buttons.
William selects the yellow download triangle, is prompted by Aviator to verify the files to download to his local drive and optionally check out documents for which he is an approved editor. Checking out the documents from the server during the download reserves those documents for William to edit, and prevents other editors from modifying the documents until William checks the documents back in.
When William is disconnected from the network, he can go directly to the Download Files folder he created under the My Documents folder on his local drive, where Aviator put his selected documents.
Within the Download Files folder, Aviator creates folders named the same as the documents William selected. Within those folders are the files downloaded from the Aviator documents. William can now launch those files as he would any other file from his Windows Explorer, work on them, and save them locally.
When William reconnects to the network, he simply selects the yellow upload triangle on the cabinet view, and Aviator uploads any changes he has made to the files he downloaded. At the same time, Aviator will optionally delete the local copy of each file from his local drive and check in the updated Aviator documents.
Aviators support for mobile users helps thousands of users like Patty and William ensure they dont lose access to or control over their important documents when they are disconnected from their office network.
