Aviator Software's Newest Releases Greatly Enhance Users' Advanced File Management Experience Aviator R2.3 and its ODMA client R1.1 are more user-friendly, are ideal for mobile users, and provide tighter integration with office productivity applications. TUCSON, Ariz., April 24, 2000 Aviator Software Inc. today announced the latest release of its flagship product, Aviator - Document Management Technology for Domino, and its ODMA client. Aviator creates a secure centralized knowledge base where users collaborate on and manage their files. Aviator R2.3 and ODMA R1.1 provide better support for mobile users, improved file handling in Lotus Notes clients, advanced importing capability (including emails), and greater ODMA functionality. Mobile users (networked users that travel and need to work with files on the road) will appreciate enhancements to Aviator Personal, Aviator's mobile file management database. Aviator Personal is a local Notes database that interacts with the public Aviator library on the server. Documents can be checked out and downloaded to Aviator Personal, edited while disconnected from the server and then synchronized to the library the next time the user connects to the server. Users can also maintain a remote copy of read-only documents for reference on the road that can be regularly refreshed with the latest changes from the library. Aviator has a new file download and upload feature to help users bypass the complicated Lotus Notes detach, edit, and re-attach process. This exciting feature offers users the ability to work with files in their familiar directory environment, while easily keeping the library documents up-to-date with the latest changes. Aviators check out and check in functionality has been integrated into the file download and upload process. Aviator's new ODMA client release R1.1 has been enhanced to integrate with all Office 2000 ODMA-compliant applications, including Microsoft Excel, and allows users to automatically launch files directly from Notes into their native application. The ODMA client greatly improves the users' experience with Aviator, and provides advanced file management functionality not found in any Lotus product. Importing files from local directories or shared drives and Notes documents (even emails) into Aviator is now easier. Aviator R2.3 includes a new document import profile that can be set up to import Notes documents that are pasted or emailed into the library. Multiple import profiles can be created to handle Notes documents from different sources (i.e., to receive Emails from various users or to integrate into a Notes workflow). "Aviator Software's research showed that networked users needed a better way to work with files on the road while ensuring the original file on the server was not modified. In addition, Lotus Notes client users disliked detaching and re-attaching files to their local directory in order to make modifications to the file", says Aviator Software's President Steve Levine. "Aviator Software's latest product releases address both of these needs." Aviator takes full advantage of the Lotus DominoÔ platform. It is quick and easy to install, runs on existing servers, and can be accessed using Lotus Notes® clients or standard Web browsers.
